I, Too,

This poem is modeled after the "I, too," poem written by Marianne Moore.

I, too, am bound by it: words haunt me
                Holding me comatose
Far past the black of midnight
Until my words fill the page

Words take form
                Line after line
                Rhyme after rhyme
                Losing track of time

I am angered by those who say words have rules
                Fools, words cannot be controlled
                No human could tame them
Poetry is a living creature that won’t be subdued

Words are power
And mine will not be controlled
                They control me
                Pencil to paper
And my black blood creates art

Metaphor Poem

A poor man’s vacation

A small child’s fantasy

Books will take you

To a place you’ve never seen before

Within its pages lie

Tales and worlds of which

Will draw you in and

Hold you

A woman’s greatest desire

A teen’s escape from reality

Books are the simplest way

To get away from life

Time's changing us
People are moving on
Promise you'll never forget me
Make your path
Through this life
Find out who you're meant to be
Promise you won't let them change you
I'll still be here
While you're fighting to make your mark
Out there
Promise you'll remember me
I'll never forget you
What you meant to me
Find out where you're going
Find out who you're going to be
And while you're out there
Making your own way
Promise you will remember me
